B'ham Ba Ba's vs Aldridge
This Easter friendly provided us with another
win - extending our unbeaten run to four. It was a comprehensive performance,
with the forwards dominating throughout to lay the platform for the victory.
The conditions influenced the proceedings with the strong end-to-end breeze
forcing inaccuracies from both sides. “Forest” opened the scoring
with a fine solo effort when he snapped up a ball in loose play and ran
it back directly at the opposition, bursting clean through to cross unopposed.
We continued to dominate completely and it was difficult to see how the
opposition were going to get a foothold. The screw was turned a little tighter
when from an attacking line-out, the ball was set and then sent out wide
along the backs to winger Lee Stokes who crossed mid-way out. Alex Yates
added the extra two points. Another period of siege from the forwards shortly
before the break backed the opposition up against their try line; a couple
of pre-emptive strikes were thwarted but a concerted drive from Jim Arnold
took him over the line to gives us a comfortable 17 – 0 lead at the
interval.
We had the elements to contend with in the second half but we still managed
to grind out the territorial advantage and win the majority of the possession.
An early score, when Jeff Large clattered through the defence and trundled
over for the touch down, suggested that we were going to run away with it
from this point but the opposition rallied and helped a little by the elements
kept their line intact to the end.
