Birmingham Exiles vs Aldridge
With Xmas shopping duties seemingly taking precedence over rugby. it was a side featuring a number of changes (and a couple of shortages) that turned up for Saturday’s encounter at Birmingham Exiles. It gave a good account of itself though, in the circumstances. A win is a win after all. The margin should have been greater. We had more than our share of the possession and territory but couldn’t find the precision to put us out of sight and the longer the game went on the more likely hood was that the home side would get back in the game. Forrest as ever was all over the place and it was appropriate that he opened the scoring with a try mid way out after 10 minutes. Alex Yates increased the lead a few minutes later, crossing in the corner after chasing a kick ahead. A fine conversion added the extra points. It was looking comfortable at this stage but despite setting up the opportunities we failed to capitalise which meant that Exiles’ confidence grew and they hit back with a try from outside centre Jake Drinkwater just before half time. Full back Mat Austin converted. We were up the slope in the second half and although we continued to dominate, persisted in running from deep alignments which meant only rarely were we able to set up any sustained pressure. Lennie Jaep broke off the back of a scrum and went over in the corner to make things look more representative but Exiles then rallied strongly in the final quarter with scrum half Andrew Root crossing late on.
