FWOE vs Aldridge
It was a big disappointment after last week’s efforts. The usual late cry-offs didn’t help our cause much and it was a re-configured team that took to the field. It’s not worth going into a blow-by-blow account of the match. Early on, some good forward driving play got us over the line for a clear try which was disallowed and the compensatory Ashley Shingler penalty was scant reward for our efforts. The home side made much more of their opportunities, hitting back straight away with a try conjured from a speculative cross field kick which found the opposite winger in space with a clear run to the line. It had looked like we were taking charge up to that point but from then on we were always chasing the game. As frustrations set in, decision-making was affected and errors started creeping in. We had our fair share of the territory and the play but laboured throughout to set up scoring positions. A couple of scoring chances went awry late-on but by then we’d twice shot ourselves in the foot to gift another couple of tries to the opposition and lost the game as a result. A second Shingler penalty completed our scoring tally. Five Ways added a conversion and a penalty to theirs.
