If last week was “lack lustre” this week was lacking just about everything else and it’s probably best not to delve too much into the detail.  A hold up on the motorway didn’t help our preparation but apart from a bright few seconds right at the start, when we might have scored, and a consolation try half way through the second half, when the match was lost, only occasionally did we threaten.  We had the shove in the scrums and with the amount of first phase possession won should have been able to make a game of it. But the cutting edge wasn’t there and as we were generally being beaten to the second phase ball it was difficult to build any sort of momentum.  Lennie Jaep got the score, characteristically picking up off the back of a 5-metre scrum and driving over. Mark Large added the extras and that was about as far as our afternoon went.

 Hanford withstood our initial burst and scrambled play away up field and in this initial insurgence, our defence melted away to allow scrum-half Mat Churchill free access to the posts.  He virtually repeated the procedure 20 minutes later.  No10 Alex Tremble converted both and the home side were firmly in the driving seat.  Two further tries from the home side – the first on the stroke of half time from winger Carlton Hopley in the corner and the second five minutes into the second half in the right corner from flanker Andy Madox effectively closed out the game.
