Rugby Match Report  - League Match Midlands 5 West (North)

30 January 2010

Market Drayton 39 points   Vs   Aldridge  3 points

It was all a bit disappointing really.  We were playing the league leaders of course, who are currently enjoying an unbeaten season and who gave us a good seeing-to earlier in the season but we have been going well of late and were hoping to demonstrate a bit more competitiveness this time.

We made a very slow start which gifted the home side a soft try 5 minutes in but recovered from that and via some determined forward driving, applied concerted pressure which was rewarded with a penalty. We continued to press and were shading the territorial advantage at this stage but weren’t equipped to sustain the effort and turn it into points.  The home side always looked dangerous with ball in hand but the defence held on.  We were wounded by a self-inflicted yellow card which reduced our forward effort and allowed the opposition to recover their composure and begin to expand their game and probe our defences.  A try in the corner after 23 minutes and one mid-way out on 40 minutes gave them a 17-3 lead at the break.

We faded progressively in the second half and became non cohesive as we ran out of steam.  The tackling became less determined and the home side crossed a further four times.

Aldridge Scorers:- Alex Yates - Penalty

Market Drayton Scorers:- Too many to list. - 7 tries and 2 conversions.
