Rugby Match Report - League Match Midlands 5 West (North)
6th March 2010
Warley Vs Aldridge
We’d won the previous encounter against Warley who are still sitting second in the league and we were hoping for more of the same this time round. The start was adventurous enough with the home side hardly touching the ball for the first five minutes. When they finally did get their hands on it they took the direct route up to our line with a kick into the corner and from the resulting pressure, No8 Derek O’Finneghan took advantage of some defensive aberration to stroll over unopposed out wide. And that was about it. Two equal sides scrapped it out for the rest of the match. There was lots of honest endeavour from both but the defences were in the ascendancy and efficiently cancelled each other out as the game pirouetted between the two 22 metre lines with neither side able to gain significant advantages or create chances. A penalty apiece – Alex Yates and John Taylor for the home side - maintained the margin and although Aldridge probably shaded play overall for enterprise - with No 10, Nick Raybould making an impressive debut - it was Warley who held on to run out eventual winners.
Final Score: - Warley 8 points – Aldridge 3 points
