AGM

Please note that the AGM will be held at Veseyans Club House at 7:30 on May 6th.

This is a Thursday, not the Wednesday of our usual AGM.

There are some important updates you will need to hear at the meeting regarding the state of the club house re-build, and we are also proposing to Incorporate the Club, creating a company called Aldridge RFC Ltd that will take the legal responsibility for running the Club. This is a strong recommendation from the RFU and is a condition of them providing us with support. In practical terms the Club will continue to run as usual, with a Committee responsible for day-to-day management. More information about this proposal will be provided at the AGM.

Please note that only fully paid up members will be able to vote.

Rugby Match Report  - League Match Midlands 5 West (North)

10 April 2010

  Aldridge vs Whittington

Two soft tries, one right at the beginning and one just after the break cost us a match that should have been well within our scope.  It was the worst possible start.  Fielding the ball from the kick-off we lost possession and then stood back and allowed visitor’s winger Joe Mara to run the ball back over our line.  With the conversion by No10 Nigel Brooks, we were seven points down with barely forty seconds on the clock.  We recovered well and clawed our way back.  An Alex Yates penalty reduced the arrears and some good following up resulted in a well taken try by Lee Stokes which pushed our noses out in front.  We had the shove in the tight scrummages and shared the spoils in the line-outs. The new half-back pairing of Nick Raybould and Mike Fullard was working well but more urgency at the breakdown would have produced quicker second phase which could have usefully increased the effectiveness of the three-quarters. It may have been the warm weather.

Whittington had their best spell either side of the break.  Scrum half Ian Carr crossed just before the whistle and when twelve minutes into the second half, centre Jason Brewer snapped up an ill advised clearance kick and ran it back over our line, it looked likely that the visitors would run away with the match.  Our problems were further compounded when Mara crossed for his second, converted by Brooks, but this seemed to galvanize us into sorting out the tactics and we then slowly started to re-gain control.  Ben Pittam ran straight through the heart of the defence to cross between the posts when the ball was finally worked to him after a prolonged period of forward pressure along the visitors line. Yates converted and shortly afterwards used his pace to outflank the defence and tip toe just inside the touchline to score out wide.  There were still some ten minutes to go and the visitors were wilting markedly but despite frantic efforts we were unable to conjure up the converted try that would have given us the result.
