League Match – Midlands 5 West (North)
19 Nov 2011
Aldridge 31 pts Vs Whittington 0 pts
Whittington were short in the front row department so, by default, we’d won the match and claimed the points well before the kick-off. We lent them a couple of props and the game was down-graded to a friendly. It’s fair to say it wasn’t a great spectacle of rugby in that it lacked the edge which probably wasn’t surprising as there was nothing at stake. Although there were never any threats it took us far too long to demonstrate the forward cohesion that we’d demonstrated over the last couple of weeks so it was nearly on half-time before we opened the scoring with a try from Neil Parr. The margin widened immediately after the break with a solo effort from Kenny Cater playing at No 10. He broke through on the opposition 22 and suddenly found himself in space with nothing between him and the goal line. Plan 1 was to panic and immediately look for support. There was none. The only alternative was to make a solo bid for glory himself which was achieved at a sedate pace without a finger being laid on him. He had to go off soon afterwards. We started to ratchet up the intensity a bit from then on and tries from Dan Hall, George Stevens and Eddie O’Neill – plus three conversions from Alex Yates - made the score more respectable.
