Aldridge began the game in lethargic fashion and conceded a penalty after only a couple of minutes to give the visitors an early lead.
Shortly afterwards the ball was kicked ahead towards the Atherstone goal line and should have been easily defended but Nick Yates managed to touch down for an unexpected try. This was superbly converted by Alex yates from wide out to give Aldridge a 7 - 3 lead.
The visitors were not daunted by this setback and laid siege to the Aldridge try line. Despite some heroic defence the try eventually came to give the visitors a lead of 8 - 7.
Aldridge then settled to a more organised mode of play and began to gain the advantage, comfortably winning scrums and causing trouble to the visitors' line-out. This possession resulted in two penalties in fairly quick succession for Alex Yates to leave the half-time score at 13 - 8 in favour of Aldridge.
Atherstone came out of the blocks well in the second half and narrowed the difference to 2 points with a penalty. 13 - 11.
Playing against the elements Aldridge began to re-gain control with some superb tactical kicking from Harry Baldock. They gained the decisive advantage 10 minutes from the end when a period of intense pressure led to a well worked try for Alex Yates, which he converted . At 20 points to 11 the visitors were now looking for the consolation losing bonus point. They were denied even this, however, and, to rub salt into the wound, Harry Baldock scored a drop goal just before the final whistle to leave the final score 23 - 11 to Aldridge.
Special mention should me made of an excellent contribution by Joshua Reynolds who stymied many of the Atherstone back row moves and drove on effectively to provide impetus for the team. A deserved Man of the Match.
