Our recent run of good form deserted us on our visit to Chaddesley Corbett last Saturday. The weather was a leveller and as it deteriorated so did the skill levels, much of the game developing into a bit of a slugfest between the two sets of forwards. Against the conditions, it took us some time to settle down and trying to gain yardage through the backs, when kicking might have been more fruitful, often handed the initiative back to the opposition. It wasn’t until well into the second quarter that we started to gain some momentum which led up to a forward flurry on the home side’s try line. The resulting driving maul was finished off by Eddie O’Neill crashing over close to the posts - Alex Yates added the extras. The home side started the second half strongly and had nullified our lead after just three minutes – No 8 Will Horne forcing his way over mid-way out and scrum-half Mark Wiseman converting. The home side continued the siege of the Aldridge line but a resolute defence shut them out allowing us to eventually reclaim territorial parity. A couple of difficult long range penalty attempts from Alex Yates went wide but a third, with two minutes remaining, bisected the posts and appeared to have snatched us the result but in “last play “ a penalty for the home side, kicked by Wiseman, gave them a share of the spoils.
