Aldridge storm to victory

We at last managed to field a representative side for the first time in many weeks (since the second game of the season in fact), and took no time in overwhelming league stragglers Birmingham Barbarians in this re-arranged league fixture. A couple of tries in the first five minutes put us firmly in the driving seat and it became one-way traffic from then on. Play was interrupted half way through the first half due to a torrential thunderstorm but when play resumed there was no respite for the home side. It was a dynamic display and although the deteriorating conditions meant that not all the passes went to hand there was plenty of ambition and determined ball carrying throughout. Injuries in the second-half compounded the home side’s problems as they stuck at their task of trying to stem the blitz but by the end we had amassed thirteen tries with eight conversions. Centre Nick Yates got a hat-trick. No.8 Chris Balmforth and winger Will Durant got a brace apiece and other scorers were Adam Reed, Jacob Holding, John Bromwich, Dan McKenna, Steve Winfield, and Alex Holding. The eight conversions were provided by the boot of full-back Alex Yates.
There will be sterner tests to come.
