Aldridge get back on the winning trail with a comprehensive win over Whittington
We finished off the first half of our league programme with this comprehensive victory over league stragglers Whittington. The forwards took the ascendancy early on and maintained it throughout. The stream of possession that this provided was shovelled out to allow the backs plenty of opportunities to put the visitor’s defence to the test. It held for just 7 minutes before hooker Lea Ross opened the scoring. We began to pile on the pressure further such that other scores were inevitable. Tries from flanker Ben Pittam, centre Dan McKenna, full-back Alex Yates and prop Alex Reed were added in the first half and with Alex Yates converting three, the score was 31 – 0 at the break. The visitor’s had had one scoring opportunity during the first half but some determined Aldridge defence had managed to keep the line intact. Whittington finally managed to briefly reverse the trend with a consolation try late in the second half when scrum–half James Crawford squeezed over into the corner. Aldridge meanwhile continued to expose the vulnerability of the visitor’s defences with a combination of forceful running from forwards and backs alike. Alex Yates and Dan McKenna posted their second touchdowns of the afternoon and further tries were provided by lock Dan Laston and winger Ashley Lowe. Alex Yates converted three to make the final tally 57 – 5 at the conclusion.
