Aldridge run riot against Barbarians

Aldridge commenced the second phase of their league programme with this impressive victory over near neighbours Birmingham Barbarians. Just 30 seconds after the off, a fine individual effort by scrum-half Adam Reed put him over between the posts and the simple conversion by full-back Alex Yates put Aldridge firmly in the driving seat. Some determined play from the visitor’s pack helped keep the lid on things for about 15 minutes but a period of Aldridge forward pressure resulted in a penalty try that effectively concluded the contest. The home side, playing with fluidity and tempo and increasingly eager to run the ball from deep put the visitor’s under the cosh for the rest of the encounter which had become virtually one-way traffic by the end. Aldridge went on to amass 16 tries and 10 conversions with Alex Yates topping the individual score board with 3 tries and 9 conversions (33 points). Winger Nick Yates and flanker Ben Drinkwater also grabbed 3 tries a-piece and Adam Reed added a second to his tally late in the second half. Winger Greg Raybould, centre Ben Pittam, hooker Lea Ross and No 10 Dan McKenna also crossed, McKenna converting the last score to conclude the match.
Having scored 33 individual points Alex Yates was Man of the Match.
