Aldridge managed a narrow win over Stourport in their quest for promotion, but not before they had experienced a severe shock at the start of the game when the home side, celebrating the opening of their new clubhouse, scored two converted tries within the first ten minutes. Both sides then swapped penalties, with Alex Yates scoring for Aldridge to leave the score 17-3. Alex Yates then finished off a fine running move with a superb try which he converted to make the score 17-10. In a game disrupted by sin bins for players from both sides penalties were obviously going to be important. Both sides scored further penalties to leave the half time score 20-13.
Aldridge hoped that, with the elements in their favour in the second half they might be able to take the lead. But it took a long time.
Nick Yates scored two super tries sandwiched between a further Stourport penalty to leave the score tantalisingly poised at 23-23.. By thins time Aldridge had recovered their composure and it came as no surprise when they slotted another penalty courtesy of Alex Yates to secure an important win.
Man of the Match was Jim Arnold for a superb all-round game in the second row and a control over his pack that led to the Aldridge victory.
Aldridge complete their league season on Saturday 21st March against one of the sides who have beaten them this season, Warley. A victory over Warley would secure promotion. Let's have as many supporters as possible up at Bourne Vale for this game.
